Esperanza Rising

Esperanza Rising is written by Pam Ryan. Esperanza's family was rich and they had servants and a big farm in Mexico. But then something terrible happens and they have to migrate to California to find work. Esperanza is not used to the work, but she does it. She makes yarn dolls for her cousins, helps out with the babies, Pepe and Lupe, helps her mother, works out in the field, and even sweeps the platform at their Mexican camp. No wonder esperanza means hope in Spanish!
