                                Jean Valjean was a noble peasant. He was imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bed for his starving nephew. He saved Fantine who was desperate fore money, from Inspector Javert. But Javert knows who Jean Valjean really is, and doesn't want to accept that he can be good. So Javert and Jean Valjean play cat and mouse throughout the story. When Jean Valjean had a chance to kill Javert, he spares him.But when Jean Valjean saves Fantine, he has a different name: M.M.Madeline.Fantine's dying wish was for Jean Valjean to get Cossette, her daughter, and raise her. So Jean Valjean went to the Thenardiers, the family that had Cossette. Cossette was treated poorly at the Thenardiers. They beat her and she never got to play with the other kids. She did all the chores. When they were about to throw her out, Jean Valjean saved her and payed fifteen francs. After that, Jean Valjean spoiled her. She had nice dresses and dolls. But when Cossette got older and met Marius, Jean Valjean got jealous and wanted Cossette to himself. But when Marius got badly wounded in the French Revolution, Jean Valjean saved him.
